Wonderful poems by Yanilka Rodriguez

January
January opens the box of the year

Where people laugh and scream “oh dear”

And brings out days

That are bright and clear

And brings out days

That are cold and gray

Come on let’s see what it brought today!

Dedication: I dedicate this poem to the year 2008 because of everything it brought out to me. This poem helped me express the weather and what this month is to me. It has brought to me good and bad days as I said in my poem; “cold and gray days” and “bright and clear” ones as well. January is the first month of the year. It is the coldest one as well. The birds fly less in this month. The plants are resting waiting for the warmer temperatures to come. It is filled with all kinds of good and bad things. January is always the month where better beginnings start. To start a better beginning there is always time, try to do it in this month it's the perfect time. "Hooray” for the first month of the year!  I hope it's better than the other year.

February

In winter's cold and cute snow
The garden in my mind does grow
I look outside towards the bright
Over there a sweet carnation
Entertaining my imagination
Though the days are short
But my eyes are clear
And though the snow the bugs appear
My outer eyes see through the snow
And in my mind my garden grows

Dedication: This poem is dedicated to my 5th grade class because I loved them with all my educated heart. My 5th grade class was the best year ever at my school P.S 153. It was the best year ever and for this reason I think they are my "garden" as I said in my poem. And we are all going to "grow” together. In my imagination they are with me 24/7 every step of the way. They are with me in the cold and snowy times, as well as the bright and sunny days. February is the shortest month of the year. In the northern part of the world, February is a very cold month. There are also some sunny days which show that spring is coming soon. The southern hemisphere is usually enjoying the warm weathers on this month. My 5th grade class was the ones who inspired me to do this poem .I take this poem as a reminder of them and my teachers too.

March

In March, spring is here
Where all the flowers are bright and clear
And through my window
I see good nature
I see yellow, white, and blue
But there are more colors too
And for this reason
I love this season
And I'm sure you will too.

Dedication: The weathers that the spring provides me inspired me to write this poem because March brings out many good things of nature. It brings out great bright colors that I love. Spring comes in March. Spring is my favorite season. March always has had 31 days. In March, it is normally the end of winter heading to spring. Spring usually starts on March 19, 20, or 21. It’s the day when the sun is directly over the equator. March can either feel like winter or spring, with as many rainy days or sunny days. The animals’ end their hibernation and many plants come to life again. It’s full of fresh air and good weathers. It brings me clear and graceful days. I love March, I love spring. (Hooray and p.s is better than summer).

April (April fools day)

Juan put a whoppie cushion
On the teacher's chair
Ashley told the teacher that a bug was in her hair
Alyson brought an apple
With a yellow gummy worm
And gave it to the teacher
Just to see if she could squirm
Amanda put a gold fish
In the teacher's drinking glass
These April fools day pranks
Are ones that you can use in class
Before you try them
There is something I should mention:
The teacher wasn't fooling when she put us in detention

Dedication: I dedicate this poem to my 6th grade science class in Columbia secondary school. I think it also would be dedicated to Ron's dragon movie. This dragon movie Ron brought in also inspired me to write this poem because his movie was representing the April fools day. In April in some parts of the world, it's planting time. In other parts, it's the harvest season. Special days celebrated in April begin with the first day of April, when children and grown-ups play jokes on one another. It had a lot of fake things about dragons. I think no student is brave enough to do all of these tricks that I included in my poem. I am sure and positive that I would never do that to any of my teachers. My poem has many pranks that you can get in trouble for. Though I don't think that's the point I think that the point is for you to have fun and laugh until you drop.

May

I know a little maiden

She’s very good and sweet

Her arms are full of flowers

The snow drops pure and white

Timid blue-eyed violets

And daffodillies bright

She loves dear Mother Nature

And wanders by her side

She tells my little brother

The sweetest tales of all

Well I know this maiden

For her name is Gloria

And I welcome her with gladness

As this month appears again

Dedication: When I was about 9 years old, my babysitter used to care of my brother and I. Her name was Gloria. She was nice and very sweet to me and my brother. This is why I say “as the month appears again” because I can’t wait to see her again. When I said “her arms are full of flowers” it represented how her heart was full of joy. She always brought me what I liked and she was always grateful with everyone. I can’t wait to see her again. The month of May has always been 31 days long. May is the most beautiful month of the year in the. Usually the snow and ice are gone and the hot temperatures haven't arrived permanently. The first garden begins to sprout in May. The wild flowers are blooming, and the trees and grasses have turned green. May is also one of our rainy months. Many birds have built their nests, and mother birds are sitting on the eggs, which will soon hatch.

June

In winter I get up at night

And dress by yellow candle light

In summer quite the other way

I have to go to bed by day

I have to go to bed and see

The birds still hoping on the tree

Or hear the people’s feet

Going passed me in the street

And I should like to play

Before I have to go to bed by day

Dedication: I dedicate this poem to the summer and the winter that always brings me good and so-so things that I should always appreciate. It’s an indication of what I need to do or wear when I go outside. It prepares me for what is coming out. It’s the “person” that guides me. Whether it’s bad or good it’s the way in which the world is formed. Spring ends and summer begins around June 20, 21, or 22. It’s the time in which the flowers are beautiful. It’s specially the month for roses. In the southern hemisphere winter begins in June with all kinds of cold and rainy weathers. This poem is especially dedicated to the outside world and to summer and winter.

July

What happened to summer?

That’s what I want to know

Is she on a vacation?

Who knows where she’d go

What was she wearing?

Grass and wild berries?

Could she be honeymooning?

With spring or early fall?

Or has she gone so far away,

She’ll not return at all?

Dedication: I dedicate this poem to the summer because sometimes in the month of July it gets cold and this is why I say” where has summer went”, in my poem. Summer gets a vacation most of the time, it only gets 2 months in which it is really summer. July is usually the hottest month of the year. It is also the 7th month of the year. During July, when there isn't much rain, the grass often loses its green color. Also on July it’s the United States Independence Day (on July 4). A lot of flowers grow in the month of July. The flower of this month is the water lily.

August

There’s a time in each year

That I always hold dear

Good old summer times

And a sweet scented breeze

The troubles annoying

Each one is enjoying

The good old summer time.

Dedication: This is the 8 month of the year. The longest days of the year have passed, but the hot days remain. In the northern regions, cool nights and early frosts lets one know that the summer is about to come. In the Southern Hemisphere, August means the winter will      soon be over.

The birds are already planning to fly south for the winter. The insects are noisier and numerous than in any other month. This is perhaps the busiest month for businesses, since most people take their vacations in August. The poppy and the gladiolus are the flowers of this month. This poem that I wrote is dedicated to my little brother. As I said in the poem that “the troubles, annoying” that is for him. Though I have fun with him so, I guess “each one is enjoying”. This happens mostly in the summer time especially during this month. (Weird.)
